The “BOY LONDON” trademark has been declared invalid: it is contrary to morality

By Decision No 20 461 C, the Cancellation Division of the EUIPO declared the trademark “BOY LONDON” invalid as it evokes Nazi symbolism and it is therefore contrary to morality for the purposes of Article 7(1)(f) RMUE.
The trademark contained a graphic component representing an eagle which, according to EUIPO, strongly resembles the emblem of the German National Socialist Party.


EPO: new tax payment program

On April 1, 2020, the new program prepared by the EPO for the payment of fees and costs due to the Patent Office entered into force.
The program was prepared on the basis of the European Patent Convention and its implementing regulation on payment of fees.

European patent with unitary effect: progress continues

The German Constitutional Court blocked the approval process of the Unified Patent Court Agreement.
In any case, the Preparatory Committee (composed of all signatory states of the Agreement establishing the Unified Patent Court) has declared its intention to proceed despite the difficulties related to the emergency situation caused by the COVID-19 outbreak and issued the following statement: “Despite the fact that the judgement will result in further delay, the preparatory work will continue, while the judgement and the way forward is further analysed”.
